Hiking Le Pouce

CentralHikingLand

Climb Mauritius' third-highest peak for panoramic views

Le Pouce (meaning 'The Thumb' in French) is the third-highest mountain in Mauritius at 812 meters. Named for its distinctive thumb-shaped summit, it offers one of the most rewarding hikes on the island with spectacular 360-degree views from the top. The hike typically takes 2-3 hours to reach the summit, passing through lush vegetation and offering increasingly dramatic views as you climb. From the top, you can see Port Louis, the Moka Range, the northern plains, and on clear days, the neighboring islands. The trail is well-marked but can be steep in places. It's recommended to go with a guide who can share stories about the mountain's history and point out endemic plants and wildlife along the way.
